Caldwells in Drumachose Limavady
« on: Wednesday 21 June 17 04:22 BST (UK) »
I have traced our Caldwells in Bedford Co., Pennsylvania to Glenkeen, Drumachose, Derry Co. through will connections.  Time frame is late 1700s and early 1800s.  The Penn. Caldwells related to the Drumachose Caldwells are James (d. 1814) and Henry (d. 1804), both died in Pa.  I believe James and Henry are brothers.  Henry was married to a Jane.  Drumachose relations (brothers) are John Caldwell (d. 1806) who lived in Glenkeen Drumachose and Thomas Caldwell who lived in Limavady in 1804.  The James Caldwell in Bedford Co. Pa. is the brother of John and Thomas, per John's will.  I am looking for any information someone might have on these Caldwells in Drumachose Parish in this time period.  My primary goal is to try to identify their parents and relationships.  These Caldwells may be related to the Caldwells in Templemore or Lifford area in Donegal in the mid 1700s, based upon DNA testing results.

Hi,
A Religious Census of 1766 shows two Caldwell households in Glenkeen. They are listed as "He" and "Ro" which I guess would be Henry and Robert.

Regards
Stewart, Irwin, Morrison, Haslett, Murrell - Dungiven area Co. Londonderry
Browne, Barrett -Co.Armagh
Neil, Smyth _Co. Antrim

"Rev. William Wilson from Moneymore ordained 17th May 1797 and died on 21th November 1828 (edest son of William Wilson) was married to Miss Caldwell of Glenkeen and shared the farm on which she lived.

Their son was Rev. John Wilson ordained on 20th November 1828."

Rev John Wilson also appears in Griffith's Valuation 1847-1864 in Glenkeen owning a house and gardens but leasing 47 acres as well.

Wonder what Miss Caldwells first name was? Drumachose congregation.

"The Will of the Reverend John Wilson late of Glenkeen in the County of Londonderry Presbyterian Clergyman deceased who died 12 July 1860 at Glenkeen aforesaid was proved at Londonderry by the oaths of the Reverend William Wilson of NO 41 Summerhill Dublin Presbyterian Clergyman William Cochran of Nedd and James Riddall of Stranreagh both in said County of Londonderry Farmers the Executors." - his brother was William Wilson and sister was Catherine Ann(e) Wilson
