Lydia Thurgood baptism 1780's Much/Little Hadham
« on: Thursday 22 June 17 03:16 BST (UK) »
Hi All,

I am looking for the baptism and parents of Lydia Thurgood.

Lydia married John Edridge 8 Sep 1813 Much Hadham but the online parish transcriptions don't include any father's names.

In 1841 Lydia Etteridge of Ash Street Little Hadham is rounded down to 50 years old.

In 1851 Lydia Etridge of Ash Street Little Hadham is indexed as 65 years old but could be 63 as the age is obscured by page markings, born Much Hadham.

I cannot find any reference to any Lydia Thurgood in either location.  There is an odd baptism of an Izze Thurgood 22 January 1788 Much Hadham but without a look at the actual page it is impossible to know if this is a transcription error.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mirl.

Looks like Izze is a dead end unless it's really poorly written Lydia.

Witness names are unfamiliar to me but will now have a look about for possible connections.

I have seen that before and has had me going for a bit until I realized my Lydia would be Etteridge at death.

This Lydia will have married a Thurgood so its worth pursuing further to see if he may be a brother.

Doesn't help much, but I have a Sarah and Mary Ann ELLCOCK who both worked for Lydia THURGOOD (Sarah in the 1851, and Mary Ann in the 1861). This Lydia was born around 1790 in Much Hadham, and was a grocer and draper. I haven't followed her family, but I suspect could be related.

I think that Lydia was married to Wright (?) THURGOOD. They are on the 1841 census together with 9yr old son George.

Aright Thurgood married Lydia Beadle at Much Hadham in 1823.
This Lydia is probably the one with Sarah and Mary Ann Ellcock as Aright died in 1842.

In 1851 my Lydia was an Etridge and then she died in 1857.
