Getting a nice designed family tree...
« on: Thursday 22 June 17 13:01 BST (UK) »
Hi I recently come in to possession of a document that was drawn up by my parents detailing our family ancestors on both sides. I would really like to get a nice piece created by someone who knows what they doing.

I've looked at several on line builders but just want something a bit more visual with images we also have.

Does anyone know of any services or people who can do this or maybe recommend someone they have used.

Thank you for any help.

Cas

Have you tried searching Free Templates?

e.g. https://www.familytreetemplates.net/
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.

Thanks that's go a lot of choice but not quite as bespoke as I was looking for.

I have just found this one that looks more promising with what I require.

Wouldn't it be a lot nicer to do it yourself?
You don't even have to be a calligrapher, although it's easy enough with the specialist pens available today, just set it out neatly and lightly in pencil, when you're clear about all that you want to include, and then neatly letter it in / add pictures borders etc that are personal to you, and it'll be much more of a family heirloom than one (you'll have to pay quite a hefty sum to get something really individual) done for you?
Large sheets of very good quality papers and card are available at most good Art stores, and a permanent, non-fade pen or two, possibly a red one to underline direct line - and think of the pride you'll have in the finished product!
Threlfall (Southport), Isherwood (lancs & Canada), Newbould + Topliss(Derby), Keating & Cummins (Ireland + lancs), Fisher, Strong& Casson (all Cumberland) & Downie & Bowie, Linlithgow area Scotland . Also interested in Leigh& Burrows,(Lancashire) Griffiths (Shropshire & lancs), Leaver (Lancs/Yorks) & Anderson(Cumberland and very elusive)

Wow as awesome as that would be and it would... if I had either the time or the patience to do it, or even sprinkle of the talent required. Art was never a strong point and I know I would get half way through and tip ink all over it. That's how my school art projects tended to go.

I'd rather much rather leave it someone who was far more adept in the skills required.

I was quite surprised at cost as not what I thought they would be for the better I must say. I've mailed him a copy of our document and hopefully it will be affordable. Will let you know when I hear back.

It's so simple to get it right - I'm sure you could at least have a go yourself! Go-on, lash out on a sheet of good paper/card, and a pen... you'll be so pleased. And with modern fibre point pens you CAN'T get ink all over.

Does good work - not sure if he can incorporate the images - but nothing ventured etc !

Some years back he did the Trees for the Beeb's WDYTYA programmes ...

Just to add to the above, imagine how proud in, say, a hundred years from now, one of your descendants has a family tree wrote in his ancestors own hand.
