You haven't mentioned what religion the family were but if Catholic then the parish registers only go back to 1838-
http://registers.nli.ie/parishes/0388

Civil registration didn't begin until 1845 (non-Catholic marriages) and 1864 (births, deaths, Catholic marriages). See here for advice on looking for Irish ancestors-

The earliest reference I can find to Hills in Ballycastle  is in Bill MacAfee's site ...Rev Charles and William Hill 1803 census (also a couple of Sharps)
http://www.billmacafee.com/1803agriculturalcensus/1803censusantrim2.pdf

This might be of interest... a nice snapshot of Ballycastle in the 1700's.There are a few Hills here too.

The site has a forum...http://forum.antrimhistory.net/index.php    It might be worth signing up and posting your questions there too.

Hi My Name is John Ward and I am descended from the Hills of Ballycastle.
I have recently bought the building that used to be the Ramoan Rectory. It was built in 1809 and the rector at the time was the Rev Charles Hill. He had a son called Hugh Hill who got involved in the trade of smuggling potteen. He and his crew were unfortunately caught and their punishment was transportation to America. I have documentary information about this and if you wish to contact me I will pass it to you.
Kind Regards
John

Thanks so much for responding. I am very interested in what ever info you have. I came to BallyCastle in September. Sorry I did not know to contact you then. Please send me your email address I would love to share my genealogy information on the descendants of Hugh (Harry), Hill. He was born in 1798. I am on Ancestry.  I had my DNA done. His sister Rose married a Daniel Sharpe from BC. His brother Adam, also came to US.  They are all buried in NY.
Happy New Year,
