Hi

My Grandmother was a confectionist on her wedding certificate. As far as I'm aware she worked in a small shop from leaving school. We do however have a lovely letter written by the owner ( a modern day CV  :) - when she moved onto factory work just after her marriage.

Hi Clair
Thanks for your reply , yes I think that must have been the name Kellys trade directories the marriage certificate  I have shows the date 1940 probably to late to get any information and she was a spinster of 23 yrs old  living in Denton lancashire, but the shop could have been anywhere i suppose, could have been her fathers as he was deceased. I have a list of trades people  got years ago from Hyde, but there are no confectioners amongst them unfortunately.  does not mention any names like Kelly or Piggot, only shops and owners.  good you getting a letter.
appreciate information to try anyway.

There is no such word as "Confectionist" in the Oxford English Dictionary, but it probably is used in the same way as "Tobacconist" which is a seller of tobacco. So probably she had a shop, or worked in a shop.

Hi Stan,

Thanks for your reply, yes that could be what she was working in the shop or owned , she could have been  a little younger when she was in it, the mind  boggles  what she could have done. thanks for the times notice.
