Marriage entry for Thomas POPPLEWELL & Jane HAYNES is legible except for his occupation. Insights appreciated. Starts with a G.

May or may not help but there are obviously some abbreviations:

Gxxxs Sorr or t a [= at?] Balr

Could the first word be Guns[mith]  ??? or Gent[leman']s  ???

ADDED: I think it is Gentleman's Servant at someplace Bal....r

I agree with Gentleman's Servant, and I think Balr could be Bachelor.
Researching among others:

Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson

I think the word starting with B is short for Bachelor . . . and  his wife was a spinster.
Snap  arthurk.

And now agree it could be Gents ser't

Though originally I had thought it was an address West Gul. . . . . . .

Perhaps OP can confirm if the format for the whole page gives groom's occupation in position after parish of residence....

I don't think it is his occupation, I read it as

Thomas Poppelwell of St. Francis West Guildford bachelor and Jane Haynes of do (ditto) spinster.

This ties in with the Parish of St Francis and Clare, Wesborough, Guildford. There were Popplewells in Guildford.
