Liverpool Central Library Search Room Request...
« on: Friday 23 June 17 15:34 BST (UK) »
...Hi!

Is anyone going to be using the Search Room at any point in the next few weeks/months? There are three documents held there that I'd really like to get a photo/scan/photocopy of. Please let me know and I'll pass on the details!

  Huge thanks in advance,

    Stephen

Try emailing the library?! ;D

When I did that, they were very, very helpful.

I did that a few years ago, but said it would cost me over £20 to get just one document photocopied and mailed.

Seems a bit steep.

That depends on how many pages you need?

I simply wanted a Marriage Entry - got it free of charge by email! ;D
It was excellent service.

It also depends on how much information you give them to start with?
I was able to quote the church and the exact date; so it was easy to find.

Their search fees are £15 for up to 30 minutes search time.
Their search form has a list of local researchers - these will almost certainly charge more!

I have the exact reference of the document, but it's twenty pages or so. That's why they were going to be charge me around £20 to do it.

I was in Liverpool for a conference on Tuesday and thought I'd be able to pop in and photograph the doc myself, but hadn't realised there was a 48 hour wait on anything ordered.

Doh.

£20 for 20 pages, plus staff time seems very reasonable to me? :D

Different repositories have different rules; and not all documents are readily available? They may be stored offsite, and have to be retrieved.

It's always advisable to check the website first.

For example, you may need a reader's ticket?

The London Metropolitan Archive charges a whopping £80 per hour.

It would cost me more than £20 to get to Liverpool.

Have you checked with the library that the document can be copied by a member of the public? would hate for someone to turn up to do it for you and find they can't either because of copyright issues or the item is unfit for public consultation.

Good advice Dawn

Some years ago when I was researching at Liverpool RO the documents I needed were not allowed to be removed from their binder for copying because of their fragility

What sort of documents are they? Are they books? A lot of Liverpool record images are now viewable on Family Search such as baptisms, marriages and burial records for C of E churches, burial registers for parish and council cemeteries, Workhouse records and many Liverpool directories.
