Blacksmiths on Holy Island
« on: Friday 23 June 17 18:06 BST (UK) »
I am having difficulty searching for blacksmiths on Holy Island census. Using search facility on Ancestry and BLACKSMITH as a keyword brings up only one Henry Barron from 1841 to 1911. I know there were several in this period but cannot find any more! Is there a quick way of searching for this occupation? It would take along time to look at every page of each census for this place.  Ideally I am looking for any blacksmith born  on and living on Holy Island (obscure reason which I won't bore you with...) Please can anyone help? Would it be easier searching for occupation  on FindmyPast?

Hi,

Have you tried using the Historical Directories for Blacksmiths in Northumberland.

Thanks, JJen, for the info. I followed your discovery through...George Taylor must have died shortly after this and Allen became a plate layer in Newcastle, perhaps more lucrative than being a blacksmith. Hope to find some more in the census.
