Wilson family of Carrowreagh, Billy Parish.
« on: Saturday 24 June 17 07:38 BST (UK) »
Hi All,
I have that my 3rd Gt Grandfather died Mar 1875 aged 88 at Carrowreagh. His land passed to his grandaughter Sarah Lennigan . She is buried at Dunseverick Church in the James Lennigan grave, died 1902 age 64 years . I have her marriage to James  Lennigan 6 Nov 1866 at Dunseverick Church , she was the daughter of James Wilson farmer.
I am searching for more information on her father James. Possibly a marriage for him before 1838 and a baptism for his daughter Sarah b about 1838.
Would someone be able to check the Dunseverick Church records for me for any Wilson entries. There may have been more children and I do not know the spouses name.
Also the James Wilson that died 1875 spouse was Mary Stewart would like to find her death if possible.
The Wilson family may have been Presbyterian. If I have the correct family they are recorded in the Ist Presbyterian census at Ballymoney 1817.
This indicates that there was another daughter Sarah, a daughter Mary and a son James.
Mary was my gt gt Granmother and married Samuel Taylor of Aird about 1829-30. She died in Glasgow in 1887 aged 80 and gave her parents as James Wilson farmer and Mary Stewart. She was recorded variously as Mary and Ann for the baptism of their  8 children at Bushmills Presbyterian, so was very likely christened Mary Ann.
James Wilson is first recorded at Carrowreagh in the 1824 Tithe records.
If the family was Presbyterian, was there a Presbyterian Church nearby Carrowreagh that they might have used ?

This map of Antrim graveyards can be filtered by denomination-

This site has many transcriptions (although if there's no headstone it's difficult to pinpoint if there is a family plot)-

Aghadowey.
yes i have returned to the same topic
    http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=744746.msg5917814#msg5917814
I now have a bit more information with the death of james Wilson at Carrowreagh in Mar 1875 aged 88. I searched the Ballimoney 1st presbyterian register at proni last year on a
visit to ireland and the pages covering the 1790's to 1817 were missing , i understand that they were damaged in a fire. I am sure that the Wilson family named in Rev Parks census must be the right one that has moved to Carrowreagh before 1824. The 5 names mentioned all correspond to the names that I expect to be at Carrowreagh.
The James Wilson that died in 1875 at 88 would have been too young to be in the 1803 Agricultural Census at Seacon, Perhaps it was his father, but Rev Parks does give the one in his census as being of Seacon.
The Sarah Lennigan that is present at James death must be his grandaughter. I have her marrige in 1866 to James Lennigan and she is the son of James Wilson farmer. She died abt 1902 aged 64 so born abt 1838
What I am searching for is that James marriage, his spouse, and any other children all before 1838. Also any information on his sister Sarah.
There may be some Wilson entries in the Dunseverick C of I Church records which I would like someone to check for me.
Alternatively they might have used a Presbyterian Church near Carrowreagh. I have checked Bushmills Presbyterian and They did not use it.
