Windows 10 - can't open photos - FYI
« on: Saturday 24 June 17 09:20 BST (UK) »
This is for reference just in case anyone else has encountered problems.

I noticed yesterday, I couldn't open any of my photos on my new Win 10 pc.   :o ???
Having been away for a couple of weeks, I hadn't noticed some updates going on... thinking it was one of them that had caused an issue.

But no, this morning while trying to sort it out I found it was the photo app which needed updating! no warning or error message stating that is what need to be done.  Googling gave me all sorts of corruption possibilities  :'(

So, if this happens to you, it might be worth updating the photos app FIRST..
to do this:
open Windows Store
where you see your login picture top right next to the search field, left click on the photo and select downloads and updates
again look at the top right hand side and click on Check for updates, just under the search field this time.
A list of updates will (if you haven't done this before) will pop up.
click on the download and update icon on the far right for Microsoft Photos... or click on update all.

I can now view my photos..
Please acknowledge when a restorer works on your photos, it can take hours for them to work their magic

Please scan at 300dpi minimum to help save the restorers eyesight.
