Opinion: is the burial for William White correct?
« on: Saturday 24 June 17 16:44 BST (UK) »
William White was baptised 18 Apr 1797 St Mary Ticehurst, Sussex.  He married Maria Noakes Newington 1818 Chipping Barnet, Hertfordshire.

He and Maria had at least 9 children:
Mary Ann - 1819 Edmonton, Middlesex [CoE]
Eliza - 1820 Edmonton, Middlesex [Non Conformist]
Caroline Amelia - 1822 Edmonton, Middlesex [Non Conformist]
Anna Maria - 1823 Edmonton, Middlesex [Non Conformist]
Charlotte - 1826 Ticehurst, Sussex [CoE]
Ellen - 1829 Regents Park, Middlesex [Non Conformist]
William - 1831 Marylebone, Middlesex [CoE possibly but unsure]
Fanny - 1833 Pimlico, Middlesex [Non Conformist]
Emily - 1837 Pimlico, Middlesex [Non Conformist].

He and Maria are at St George Hanover Sq Belgrave Westminster in the 1851 Census. William was variously described as a Clark, a Draper and a Gentleman.   Maria is widowed and has returned to Ticehurst, Sussex and is living with her father by the 1861 census.

The best fit I was able to find for a William White between 1851 census and 1861 census is a non conformist burial 20 Feb 1860 for William White aged 64 years of Hoxton Sq buried at Hackney, Victoria Park Cemetery.

What is the opinion for this being 'my' William White ???

What about this death in St George Hanover Square registration district in 4Q 1854?

Shaun's find fits with the 1851 entry where William is 54 and the family are living in the St George Hanover Square registration district.

Why are you looking for a burial rather than first checking for a death on freebmd?

Yes I think you are correct ShaunJ: that fits age and previous location. Thank you.

I am unable to find his burial and would appreciate some assistance please.  I'm aware I could purchase his death certificate from the GRO however funds do not stretch to additional expenses .

The Dec 1854 ref 1a 162 includes
Ann Padfield, who was buried 17 November 1854, St George Hanover Square (abode Mount Street)
Mary Jane Gloster, who appears on the free index of deceasedonline, buried 16 November 1854, authority Kensington + Chelsea (I believe at Brompton Cemetery)

So it's a reasonable bet that the William White with the same reference was buried around the same time.
Again on the deceasedonline index, William White, buried 17 November 1854, Kensington + Chelsea. And I believe also at Brompton Cemetery. The free record says there are three others in the same grave.
Looking at all William White deaths in Dec 1854, the one in St George's does look the most likely one for that burial.

I had a spare £2 credit on Deceasedonline so had a look at the William White, aged 57 that John found above (and Shaun found earlier!).  He is of 22 Bloominfield Terrace, Pimlico and buried in a common grave at Brompton Cemetery (Kensington and Chelsea) .
It says that the body was removed from the parish of St George Hanover Sq.

Bless you, Carol.
I don't think there is a William White living there in 1851, Westy may be able to see if records such as electoral registers, rate books or even land tax, indicate that her William might have left Commercial Road South by then.
