Hi avm228 - that's also very interesting and definitely seems to tie in with the info dawnsh found in Philadelphia.  If it is my WERNewton then it would certainly explain the lack of paperwork for him in the UK.  If only I could confirm this 100% I would be very happy, and if only they had written out his full names rather than just initials!!!  I have found that his burial place was the Methodist Episcopal Cemetery on 10th and Washington but it no longer seems to be there.  Never mind.  Now I just need to find out what became of Rachel, most likely mother of Joseph - the lack of UK entries for her also suggests she may have gone abroad so I shall have another hunt along those lines ... Nina

How unfortunate to move to USA and be dead less than 2 months later ... seems most likely his injuries 'accidentally received' might have been a work accident ...

So, I've been having a good hunt for any sign that Rachel might have left the UK, but nothing looks likely.  Has anyone else spotted anything or have any other ideas which I could investigate to try and find out what happened to her?  Many thanks, Nina
