William Lankfer 1818 Cambridgeshire
« on: Saturday 24 June 17 18:39 BST (UK) »
Hi there,
I am researching my Lankfer family history. The Lankfer name is not very common and most Lankfers I have found in the census I have been able to fit into the tree but am struggling with a few and also the name seems to be misspelled alot further back.
John Lankfer (a direct ancestor of mine) was born in 1784 in Elm. His baptism spells his name as Lankfor and his parents were Henry and Mary who I think are Henry and Mary Langford. They also had a son William Langford born in 1786 in Elm so I think this is John's brother. I have got John and his wife Susan's children down fine. I know that a different William Lankfer born in 1818 is not John and Susan's son but im thinking he could be Williams (1784) but I can't find any records to prove this.
I found a marriage record for a William Lankford/Lankfer (depending on which record you look at) where he married Sarah Reeve in 1811 in Elm. So they could be William juniors parents but how do I prove it?
There are also two other people who I think could be William seniors children -  Ann, born 1811 and John born abt. 1819.
If anyone can find any records to show that they are Williams children or if there are any other children I would be very grateful.
As it's such a rare name I would be surprised if they weren't related.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Vicky

I have managed to find out that one of William and Sarahs children was John Lankfer born abt 1815 he was married to the Ann I mentioned.

I have scoured the internet to find a christening for William Lankfer born 1819/20 in St Giles, Cambridgeshire but cannot find one that I think matches. Can anyone else find one? It could be that he is not at all related to my Lankfers.

Also I found out that William seniors wife Sarah remarried in 1834 to Samuel Pearson so know that William died somewhere between 1811 and 1834 but can find no death/burial records. Can anyone find one?
Any help would be much appreciated

I have had a look in FreeREG and Family search and found the following; Henry's wife Mary was possibly Potts and they married in 1783 in Elm. Son John baptised 18/4/1784. This John as you say married a Susan, and there was a daughter born to a John and Susan-baptised 25/5/1823 in Wisbech. Samuel Pearson and Sarah Langford -who was a Widow, married 13/1/1834 in Elm.
regards.

Thank you for that. That's very useful.
There is still this William Lankfer who was born in 1819 in Cambridgeshire and married Jane (she was a similar age and born in Lincolnshire. Maiden name possibly Brown) I found a marriage for William Lankfer to Jane Brown in 1840 in Holbeach. I think that is probably them. They moved to London where they had a daughter Mary Elizabeth who married Robert Backhouse.
But I can find no birth record for William and no way to connect him to my Lankfer family.
If anyone can see on the marriage record in 1840 who Williams father is that would really help.
Thank you again
Vicky

Oh wow that's amazing thanks. The witness, Samuel Pearson, is his step father so that links him to my tree. Thank you so much.
I still cannot find a baptism/birth for him. I have searched all different spellings of the name Lankfer.
Thank you for your help

Glad he was the one.
If you have access to FindMyPast, the image is there.
You’ll have to search A-Z of record sets and choose Lincolnshire Marriages

Thank you for that. I saw that baptism but if he's the one I think he is his parents should be William and Sarah. He also had a sister Elizabeth (or Eliza) born about 1826 I can't find a baptism for her.
Unfortunately I don't have findmypast but I'll wait till a free weekend
