Thomas Bailey Lambeth
« on: Sunday 25 June 17 22:51 BST (UK) »
Hi I was wondering if anyone can help. I have been tracing my Cornish family tree and on one tree line in Penzance Thomas Bailey from Lambeth Middlesex (Occupation Sailor) Marries Harriett Nicholls Newlyn. I have extensively traced the Cornish lines but have no Idea about Lambeth in Middlesex? According to the internet Lambeth is Surrey?

Thomas Bailey DOB Abt 1852. Married 1872 Penzance. I have no idea where he was pre marriage and do not know which Thomas Bailey he likely will be in early census records in Middlesex. Anyone able to help?

Hi

Welcome to RootsChat :)

London is a big place  ;D

But there is a baptism in Lambeth in 1850

Thomas Bailey bapt. 1 Sep 1850 St Mary, Lambeth. Mother: Susannah Bailey.
Abode: Workhouse.

Do you have the wedding cert. it could help narrow it down ? - it would name his father

Hi I do not have the wedding certificate. The Opc website does not mention his parents names on marriage. I could always call the Truro record office as recently visited on holiday. May I ask where you found this information.

Thanks for the help

Hi

The parish records for London and Surrey are on Anc*stry.

I'm just checking to see if she ( Susannah Bailey ) married. It is possible it is not the correct record - there are a few Thomas Bailey's born in the timeframe in the London area.

Thank you. I just realised it wasn't on the parish database I found that marriage. It was on ancestry. Thank you it's appreciated.

You really need the marriage certificate to verify parents

this looks a possiblity- age fits and there is a "water" connection
1861
18 Surry? Place Rotherhithe Surrey
George Hy Hubert Head M 61 Waterman Rotherhithe Surrey
Sarah wife M 57 Rotherhithe
Henry son S 19 labourer in shipyard
John son 15 S Labourer in Shipyard
Sarah Bailey daughter widow 34 Rotherhithe
Thomas Bailey Grandson 8 scholar Lambeth Surrey
Henry Bailey grandson 8months Clerkenwell Surrey
RG9 390 38 11

there is a marriage reg FreeBMD
Jun qtr 1854
1d 749
on same page
Sarah Hubert
Thomas Bailey

but this would mean Thomas jnr was born pre marriage

Nothing is certain until marriage cert seen

Now that looks good  :)

But the marriage cert would be the best option here

Here are the details from the 1854 marriage

19 June 1854 St Giles Camberwell. Both of full age

Thomas Bailey, bach. engineer of Peckham Rd. Father : Peter Bailey - builder

Sarah Hubert, spins. of Peckham Rd. Father: George Henry Hubert - lighterman

both signed register
Witnesses: G H Hubert and H Searle

Thanks for all your help, I will look into the certificates and have added to my tree as a potential line.
Yes it appears the Thomas of Cornwall had a sister. I assume you mean where was Sarah in 1871.

Thanks
