James McKenzie Forfarshire regiment
« on: Monday 26 June 17 16:38 BST (UK) »
Hi,  I have tried this a number of years ago and got nowhere but I have new info so letīs have another go!   ;D  I would like to find out about my Scottish side.  What I know is James McKenzie joined the Forfarshire regiment.  The date I read somewhere is 1881 but he was married to an Irish girl, Catherine (Kate) Dorman, in 1878.  I do not believe she went to Scotland but I may be wrong.
His parents were Thomas & Margaret McKenzie.  That is the extent of my info.  I would appreciate anything you can dig up, especially dates.  This is the one side of my family I know so little about.
Thanks

Gerry    :P

Gerry  I wonder whether you would be better posting on the Scotland board rather than the military?  There was no regular army unit known as the Forfarshire Regiment.  In the time frame, there were militia and volunteer units (which were different) and records were a matter for the county and don't appear among the War Office records on line.  More detail on an earlier thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=722582.msg5665925#msg5665925

National Records of Scotland have militia records, useful guidance here https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/research/guides/military-records

I regret I don't have access to Scotland's People.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

Many thanks for the reply and suggestion which I will certainly follow-up on.  Can I ask a moderator to mark this thread closed as I will repost on the Scotland Board.
