Hi BugBear

To tell you the truth, I didn't know that the Bond would be there.

If you look at the Norfolk Record Office Information Leaflet 48 Marriage Licence Bonds(link below), it states "that licences were sometimes issued by a court higher or lower in the hierarchy
than was necessary", that is why I tried the Consistory Court.

Fortunately I picked the 1758 with 190 images and worked backwards from 190 :)

I have a few Bonds of my own that I have been unable to find, but when you read that "Bonds were usually filed within two or three years of the date of the licence, but occasionally they were filed as many as ten years afterwards" you can understand why.

Is it "normal" for a bond to be missing, or have I made an obvious mis-step?

I think the answer to your question is "Yes and No"

I guess, until they're fully indexed, I'll just have to approach the problem incrementally, in the manner you describe.

My personal preference would be part of a collaborative project to index them; I'd be quite happy to index a few years. Maybe I need to join NFHS and push for it.

They're a superb resource, containing a lot of relatively rich data (compared to PR marriages of similar date).

They have now been indexed at the NRO/NROCAT, under reference code "ANF 12"
