It appears Mabel was quite a well known and accomplished swimmer. There are dozens and dozens of articles about her swimming accomplishments from 1917 -1925.

Quite an accomplished young lady.

Her American Breast Stroke record of 19 April 1918 was unbeaten until 5 February 1924  :o

Weren't mermaids credited with singing as well as their aquatic skills?  Would appear so :D
