Searching for Clara Pope nee White 1864-? East Stonehouse
« on: Tuesday 27 June 17 17:43 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am trying to track down a loose end concerning my great grandmother Clara White born in East Stonehouse in 1864. Her life is well documented up to 1911, appearing in each census with her marriage to Benjamin Thomas Pope and 7 children. She is living at 2 Quarry Street with her son Arthur Pope in 1911, after which she seems to disappear...

There are some Ancestry members who state a death in 1915 but I cannot find a source and do not want to take this for granted.

Can anyone suggest how to proceed with this one?

Thanks,

Matt

One tree on Anc has the record for the 1915 death but it is for a Clara J White not Clara Pope

The death of a Clara Pope, aged 59, was registered in St Germans  Jan-March 1922. St Germans is on the Cornish bank  opposite East Stonehouse. I think this is worthy of further investigation.

( I see Rosie has beaten me to it!)

Thank you for the useful clues!

I don't believe she ended up in Wales. Her maiden name was White but I have never seen the middle initial used on any other documents.

I like the sound of the St Germans angle. I believe her mother in law was from St Dominicks which seems to be close by and one of her daughters ended up there later in life but I know little about this.

Any idea about the next steps to take?

Thanks again.

Matt

Thanks Keyboard!

Every visit to the forum seems to leave me short of £9.

Guess I could also wait for the 1921 census...
