I am looking for information on my father's family . He was born in beith , Ayrshire,
Scotland. He married Robina Foster in 1940 in Brisbane. Many thanks, Jean Crandell

First port of call would be scotland's people (Pay site I'm afraid) where you can get his birth certificate.

Ideally you need his marriage cert. if this gives father's name & then his birth cert.
However there's only 1 William Binnie born 1911-13 Ayrshire so probably yours.
Doing a free 1911 search on Scotlandspeople throws up just 1 Binnie family living in Beith.
Head of house; William Binnie 45 + family.
1901 census found on Ancestry has the family living in Glasgow: William Binnie 35; Elizabeth Binnie 26 + family.
Don't chisel it in but keep on the back burner until you get the certs.
