(Post amended)

I am assuming that you will be able to read/answer this post ?

Go to the folder which is holding your file

"Right-click" the file, select "Properties"

Is "Read only" ticked ?

[  please tell us the answer to that question here ]

Before doing any other work on the file, ensure that you have at least 1x copy/backup.
Can you open the copy in FTM?

When did this start happening?

Ray

Hi Ray,

I am in touch with 6Katinka6 by email, the messages are coming to me directly instead of being posted on the forum they are still getting the hang of how to use the website but hopefully my last email of instructions should help them get started :)

Thanks

Sarah

Hi Ray Sarah has told me to get in touch with you re my problem I am using Family Tree Maker 2006 on my PC Windows 7 and I keep getting "this is a read only" so I can't put any more info in
Through trial and error I found out that I have not ticked a box with read only So what can I do to get back to normal as Sarah has told you I am PC illiterate because I am 86 years old can you put the solution in plain language PLEASE Thanks George

If you got to top left - File

Choose 'Export File' the choose 'Entire File'

Rename that File with a different name like adding (1)

Close & re-open your new file & all should be fine.

You can go back & delete your old file then rename your new file to what it was originally.

Hope that's simple & works?
