Duke's Dragoons and the campaign against Bonnie Prince Charlie
« on: Thursday 29 June 17 19:42 BST (UK) »
Does anyone if there are any surviving records of officers in the Duke's Dragoons.
Raised by the Duke of Kingston in 1745 as the Duke of Kingston's Light Horse.
Served at Culloden.
After that battle  they were disbanded, but many of the officers and man re-enlisted to form  the Duke of Cumberland's Dragoons.
I recently discovered a several times great uncle, Jonathan Power Gilpin, a Bath lawyer (the Duke of Kingston owned extensive property in that city), on the 1787 and 1798 army lists receiving half pay as a former cornet of the Duke's Dragoons (regiment disbanded in 1749).

His will and some other papers come up in a National Archives search http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/results/r?_dss=range&_ro=any&_p=1700&_q=jonathan+power+gilpin

I am Zoe Northeast, granddaughter of Maximilian Double.

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
Zoe

Thank you for your replies.
I will follow up the links about the regiment, but I have already transcribed the will.
In fact I posted an enquiry on the heraldry forum as to his arms, as the will included a bequest of china with his arms.
