Robert William McComas, US Marine, WW2 - New Zealand connection
« on: Friday 30 June 17 09:05 BST (UK) »
Can anybody assist?
I am searching for a Robert William McComas, possibly born 1921, 24 February, Baltimore, Maryland, USA.  At some stage during WW2 was in New Zealand.

I have found the following information:
I have checked the 1940 US census records and found a Robert W McComas, Single 19 years of age, born 1921.  Occupation Helper - Cabinet Factory.  Parents were William McComas age 52 born 1888, Timekeeper, City Sewerage Dept and Alice (Alsie) P McComas age 49 born 1891.  Address 534 North Robinson Street, Baltimore City Ward 7.   Other census information suggests that Alice's (Alsie) maiden name was HEWITT.

The WW2 Army Enlisted Records for 1938 - 1946 has a Robert W McComas born in Ohio.  Unlikely to be the one I am looking for.

The Robert McComas I am looking for was a US Marine and was in New Zealand at some stage during WW2.

US Social Security Death Index has a Robert McComas who died in November 1885, Maryland age 64 years.

Thanks
WNW

Thanks Rosie.

It looks likely that this is the one.

I would be interested to know where he is buried.

Many thanks for your posting.

There is a RAOGK volunteer in Baltimore Maryland who occasionally visits the Maryland State Archives and can do obituary look ups for the Baltimore Sun - this might give details of burial or cremation -  might be worth an e-mail - can only ask  ;)

Many thanks Sandra and RJ.

It is possible that Robert is also buried in the Baltimore cemetery.  I will check to see if there is information online.

Sandra thanks for the suggestion of the lookup for further research.

Did Robert McComas marry - there is no mention of other family in the death notices?

Thanks
