Although he married in Norfolk - do you have him on any census which confirms his birthplace as Norfolk?

He appears to be somewhat older than that - when James and Mary married both are shown to be of 'Trowse Milgate' - in 1841 Mary is living with daughters Ann and Mary in Trowse Newton.

Mary died in 1847 but not buried at Trowse Newton (nor was James).

Have found their burials as follows:

James Douglas 73  died 27/12/1834, bur.4/1/1835 St. Etheldreda, Norwich - abode Trowse Milgate
Mary Douglas 75    died 22/9/1847, bur28/9/1847              ditto                           ditto

So, James Douglas bc.1762 (not 1777) and Mary bc.1772 (which concurs with her age on 1841 census).   Thus, when they married he was 40 and she was 30.

Hi

Mary Jex is related to a Francis Jex
i think ( from a distant cousin )
now i have her birth 1772
 i am wondering
 a) if Francis is right.  Is he  a witness on the marriage entry
b)  i have found a Jex family in Wrentham Suffolk  with a Mary Jex christened Jan 1772 parents Joseph and Sarah
she appears to have a half brother called Francis 1769 mum ( Mary Hale) seems to have died after he was born
james douglas
i don`t at the moment seem to have any records for James Douglas  with the new birth date
we did wonder if Douglas is a Scottish family

thank you for your help

What's a Douglas doing in Norfolk at that time? possibly due to the movement of troops in the French war or the droving of cattle from Scotland to Norfolk where they were fattened for the London market & the Navy!
