Yes, it is a lot to take in and it can be a bit overwhelming, but can I suggest that you take your time to work through all of the information provided, which has been very well summarised by Jim at reply #15.    David's father William was not born in 1785, he was born 1775.

Strangely you helped my neighbour find her grandfather in Glasgow small world is'nt it .I will try to struggle n a bit by myself but no doubt I may have to find you again , probably soon . Hello Jim1 , maybe you might have thought I have been searching my Dickson family tree but no I have been in hospital for a while . Come back to my tree a little bit confused in my first research I thought that William dickson was born in 1785 but you seem to think it is 1775 which probably makes sense . You have him marrying Ellen Aughbrough in   1807and her death and his remarriage fit in well but some where in ancestry they have him married to a Anna Maria Proctor in 1819 which would be odd as his eldest son William was born in 1815 according to your great family tree you sent me.
I find it so hard to find out any more details here I suppose it's because I don't know where to look . Hope I'm not too much of a nuisance but I would like to learn more , someone had researched my maternal great grandmother back to 1570 , wasn't I lucky . regards  Tiptop

When you say "somewhere in Ancestry" do you mean someone's Ancestry tree ?

Jim1 I thought I found this out somewhere on ancestry but I don't think it was on a tree , though I did go into review and a family is researching her . At the time I didn;t take much notice because I thought she was William's first , now that doesn't seem correct .   Tiptop
