WW2 Ship ID please
« on: Saturday 01 July 17 14:49 BST (UK) »
Could anyone please tell me the name of these two ships, they are postcards that belonged to my late Father who was in the RNR during WW2.
Thanks for looking.

While not well versed in matters maritime, I would venture a suggestion that they are the same vessel which, if correct, cuts the number of possibilities down a bit!

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

If you look at the rake of the funnel they appear different so I would venture to suggest that they are different ships, but then again I am no expert.

Good evening,

I thought the both the same but on second look the top one only has one mast. Both look very similar to Jim's first picture. Don't know what troopships we had from the US, will have to look it up.

Added, second look says not the same as Jim's, that gas huge strengthening girders on the side to take the landing craft it has in place of lifeboats.

Thanks so much Jim, Greendale and John...I really appreciate your interesting comments and input. The only info that I can offer is that my Father was attached to the HMS Victory in 1940.Then the AMC Maloja, Victory and Saker/Saken 11 ( Battler) and  The Avalon 111. He was born in St. John's NFLD and I believe the Avalon 111 was in NFLD.
Thanks so much it's much appreciated.

I would suggest they are the same ship.
The ship is an Armed Merchant Cruiser flying the White Ensign. Looks to me like a P & O ship possibly HMS RAJPUTANA which was lost in 1941.

I would agree with Hugh, probably the same ship weather it is RAJPUTANA is another question but at least you have something to work from.
