if some one was born in 1896 and served in ww1 [ army ] is it possible he would of served also in ww2 [ army ], he was a miner and married with a child living north east

Yes quite possible He could have served Home Guard many WW1 vets did.

I don't mean home guards I ment actually served as in fighting and ending up in prisoner of war camp

Yes possible.If he did MOD will still have his record.
He would have only been in his 40s.

Good morning,

As a miner he was in a reserved occupation so would not have had to do service in WW2. That's not to say he didn't, some did choose to serve.

In WW1 it had a different title but he wouldn't need to serve unless he was one of the thousands of miners called up to tunnel under German lines.

The age limit for WW1 was initially 40 when conscription started in 1916 but later went up to 51.

The age limit in WW2 was 51.

thank you I know he defiantly served in WW1 but didn't know if he served in WW2 is the MOD the only place I could find out
