Place of birth registration......

I'm sure I eliminated this birth from my family tree years ago but my notes have gone a.w.o.l. 

1866/14540   Scott      Martha Ann   Mary Ann   NR

[Actual birth date:6.8.1866]

Could someone please provide the place where the birth was registered.

I would also be grateful for any further information about Martha Ann.

Hi Minniehaha,

Is the folio number you've provided (14540) from the NZ BDM website or from the NZSG microfilms?

The District Keys only match the latter. NZ BDM assigned new numbers to events when the created the online system.

The Ancestry website just showing NZ with folio number 319, so in this case you are no way forward   All this before 1873.

Well done, KHP, that's what I needed.

The District Key birth folio numbers for 1866 run from 1 to 1155.

319 is a fit for the event being registered in Wellington (275-336).

Thank you KHP & Spades. My days of visiting the library to look up fiche etc are now few and far between so your help is very much appreciated.

I can now rule out the aforementioned Martha Ann Scott as being "mine".

I have an ancestor Robertina Scott whose birth may or may not have been registered, which is not uncommon, just frustrating!

It was here that Jean put me on the right track of my great-grandmother Mary Ann Scott formerly Scott, nee O'Brien having married twice. Or at least appeared to have done so. A marriage to the Robert Scott who drowned in 1865 has not however been found. Mary Ann went on to marry her brother-in-law Thomas Scott in December 1866.

The union with Robert produced a daughter, Johanna, (known as Hannah) born 1864.

Marriage to Robert's brother:

Then things become a little murky.

A daughter, Robertina was born, but when? See stated ages in above forum topic.

I'm hoping someone can rule out the following as not being connected to "my" Robert & Ann Scott

Marriage:

1861/2987   Anne   McNeil   Robert   Scott

Two children found?:

1865/18735   Scott   Elizabeth Ann   Ann   Robert

1862/14723   Scott   Janet Mary McNeil   Ann   Robert

The first child born after the marriage of my great-grandfather Thomas Scott and Mary Ann/Ann/Annie, was Lawrence, his date of birth being 15.2.1867.

Next was:

1869/33160   Scott     Eliza Ann Bradie    Ann   Thomas. Date of birth 18.5.1869.

Age-wise, Robertina was always considered by the old aunts to have been the second child; born after Johanna and before Lawrence.

Robertina was obviously named after Robert, but as her father? or her uncle? Had she perhaps previously been registered under another Christian name?

Can this conundrum be solved?
