info on Girvan
« on: Monday 03 July 17 18:55 BST (UK) »
HI There,
I came across info of my grandfather who signed up for the army at Glasgow, in 1915.  His discharge papers say "discharged at Girvan.  Is Girvan a town or a street. He was discharged after 2 months due to being  too young.--He lied about his age. :)

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,

I've found reference to 18 Battalion Highland Light Infantry training there in 1915 and other references to Girvan Camp Ayrshire.  I'm afraid I don't know what and where.  A posting on the Ayrshire board may turn up someone with local knowledge.

Coincidently a piece on "Memory Lane" page of last week's "Ayrshire Post" newspaper was about Lieutenant Thomas Boyce of the Highland Light Infantry, one of 4 brothers from Girvan serving in the war. Lt. Boyce was a professional soldier, 4th generation of a military family. By 1917 he'd served in Gallipoli and Egypt.
