William Nelson from Haxey
« on: Tuesday 04 July 17 20:28 BST (UK) »
According to the census returns in 1841-1881;

William Nelson
b1815 Haxey, Lincolnshire, England

Children
William Nelson b1848
Sarahann Nelson b1850–
Elizabeth Nelson b1853–
James Nelson b1857–
John Nelson b1864–

His mother is Sarah b1800 in Burringham, Lincolnshire, England (she is in his household on one census)

His wife is an 'Ann' b1823 in Messingham, Lincolnshire, England, i believe she passed away in 1873 in Haxey, Lincolnshire, England.

Can anyone help me push either of these lines back...and my main aim, which is to find Ann's maiden name; i still don't have that information.

Many Thanks!

This birth record should help with Ann's maiden name -

James Nelson
q4 1857, Gainsborough
Vol 7a Page 606

Mother's maiden name - Robinson

John's birth record (1863) also has MMN - Robinson

If that is the right marriage, William was a farmer, as was his father, also William.

Ann's father was James, also a farmer.
The witnesses were William and Sarah Platt.

I can't find a baptism in Haxey but a William Nelson, son of William, a farmer, and Sarah, was baptised in Messingham on 12th December 1813.

A William Smith Nelson married Sarah Wilkinson on 1st July 1813 in Messingham.

A William and Sarah had a son, John, baptised in Messingham on 26th October 1817, but William was a labourer of East Butterwick.

On the 1861 census, William gave his birth place as Butterwick.

Ann Robinson baptised in Messingham on 22nd July 1822, daughter of James and Alestia.
