John and Caroline Powell Birmingham cant find in 1901 or 1911 - HELP!
« on: Tuesday 04 July 17 21:40 BST (UK) »
Hi
I wonder if anyone could help me with locating a John and Caroline Powell in the Aston/Birmingham area in 1901 and 1911 censuses.
I have information that confirms John was definitely alive after 1911 as one of his daughters (Louisa) got married in 1916 and he is not listed as deceased. Likewise one of his other daughters (Margaret) who married in 1904 he is not listed as deceased. On these 2 marriages and another son's marriage (John) in 1909 he is working as a Caster as his occupation.
In 1891 the family are living at 7 Emily Street in Aston, Birmingham and it shows Caroline on here also and another child called Frank only a few months old.  Again he is a Caster as his occupation.
Strangely the only marriage I can find of a John Powell marrying a Caroline took place in 1876 and the age of him on this doesn't match or job although similar trade (Cabinet Maker).  I have also found these 2 also on the 1891 census which also rules them out as the family is different from mine in 1891.
Plenty of answers required if anyone can assist and when they did marry if my marriage find appears to be correct that its not this one in 1876.
I did also find an army record enlistment for the 3rd Battalion Warwickshire Regiment from 1883 but although this one could match as it states Brass Caster as his occupation it states that he is single but John Powell (Junior) was born around 1881.
HELP!  :D
Thanks
Phil

Unfortunately we are not allowed to conduct 1911 look ups.

On the 1891 there is a Frank Powell, This would appear to be his birth -

Frank Powell
q2 1890, Aston
Vol 6d Page 236

Mother's maiden name - Foxall

This looks like John and Caroline on the 1881 - at Rea St Birmingham, boarding with Thomas William HILL and family.

John POWEL  21 Birmingham  (Brass Caster)
Caroline        19 Birmingham

RG11/2985/14

There is a Thomas POWELL and Jane FOXALL on the same page married at West Bromwich Dec qtr 1884 (6b/1227).  - very curious  ???

Edited to add: I think actually the other chap on the page married Jane FOXALL (Edwin EARDLEY) as I can see them together in the 1891 census at West Bromwich, so not yours.

There is also a John William POWELL birth registered Aston Sept qtr 1881 with no mother's maiden name recorded - a possibility if they weren't yet married?

Is this them in 1901 at Fox St Birmingham? (all born in Birmingham)

John Powell    28    (brass worker)
Caroline Powell    27
Margret Powell    2
Louisa Powell    1
Frank Powell  (nephew) 6
John Powell  (father)   50

Schedule 169 Page 32

Added: I'm only looking at a transcription, so not sure what the original looks like for the ages of the girls.

I'd looked at that one too but the ages are way out (transcript agrees with the image).  Could just be an error by the enumerator I guess  :-\
