Elizabeth was a dressmaker in Dundee, but her body was never recovered, so no monument inscription for her.

Alexander and William were labourers in Foundry Lane, Dundee.  Once again their bodies were not recovered.

The Robertson boys were born in Abernethy, Perthshire
And Elizabeth Milne was born in Newburgh, Fife.

Dundee also has a connection to my Mary Milne (daughter of James) She married William Lyall from Dundee.
Still trying to figure out how Dundee fits with my Fife families, there must of been some travel between the two districts?  That train perhaps?

Just to add; I have Mill and Milne in my tree. The same person being recorded as Mill in one record and Milne in another, the same with their children.

I think it's just likely to have been the way the name was spoken, heard and written down. This variation occurred in non-Gaelic speaking (Angus) areas of Scotland, so I don't think that is the only reason the variation can occur. It's actually relatively common for Mill and Milne to be interchangeable. Always check both when researching this name.

Jill.

Added;

Have a look at this quote from another topic. Even today the name Milne can be pronounced as Mill.

I wonder if the address on the birth certificate may have been wrongly recorded ? It does happen sometimes. Searching around I have found a MILNES WEST WYND which is near Brook Street and Scouringburn Court where they were in the 1871 census.
Very possible. I know a lot of people who spell their names Milne but pronouce them Mill.

Great, glad you have got some results.

I've just realised that 'Milnbank Road' (where I lived briefly in 2003) is a corruption of 'Mill/Milne'. Makes sense as it heads straight down to that area. I imagine it was heavily populated by various Mills back then.

Even today it's still a rather industrial area, with pockets of regeneration. I pass it weekly.

Just to add that I had a Gt Gt Aunt who married in Dundee in 1890 to a chap with the surname of Millan.

It was always pronounced the same as Milne. I remember meeting her as a child and she was referred to as your auntie Annie Milne (Millan).

Another example of pronunciation in different parts of Scotland.

Oh they certainly are not making it easy with the spellings.
While I have got you all, is there any burial records for Montrose?  James Milne died 1 Nov 1889, Newburgh, Fife his wife Elizabeth 24 May 1879, and says they are buried at Montrose.  Would there be any grave photo's taken for this cemetery at all?
