Diss PR scans on familysearch, 1779?
« on: Wednesday 05 July 17 09:10 BST (UK) »
I have followed a line and found an interesting marriage; it represents the crossing of several families in my tree, and confirms several guesses I've made.

In FreeReg it's

County    Norfolk
Place (link for place information)    Roydon (Diss)
Church name    St Remigius
Register type    Parish Register
Register entry number    72
Marriage date    10 Jan 1779
Groom forename    Samuel
Groom surname    PORTER
Groom parish    North Lopham
Bride forename    Mary
Bride surname    NEWSON
Bride parish    Roydon
Witness    Rob HOWSON
Witness    Robt NEWSON
Register note    Licence

So, like a good little genealogist I've used it to find the original PR;

The Diss entry, under Marriages, has a set labelled 1777-1783, which sounds rather promising...

But there are only 6 scans, stopping at 1778, reg no. 18.

Worse, the next marriage register image set offered is 1845-1871, leaving a rather large  gap, 1780-1845.

It's clear that FreeReg had access to at least the full 1777-1783 set, since they indexed it.

A few trial searches in FreeReg show marriages 1778-1811, then restarting around 1848

Anyone know more?

Dear $DEITY, I'm an illiterate fool. All the stuff I posted about Diss appears to be accurate.

But completely irrelevant to the marriage I'm looking for.  :-[
