I wonder if anyone can shed any light on this strange situation. I am helping my niece research her grandfather's family all of which have passed away.
Grandfather's name is Robert Richard Henry Foreman b1925, in a caravan on a farm in Battle. Mother, Ethel Foreman formerly Walters and father, Robert Richard Henry Foreman. We can't find birth or death carts for either. We do know that there may have been gypsy/traveller connections as one of Robert Jnr's sisters was born in a caravan in 1920 on a large gypsy site in Belvedere, Kent and also several brothers were born in the caravan in Bexhill in late 1920s. In fact, Robert Jnr, and three sisters were removed to the workhouse for several months due to insanitary living conditions.
We can't find a marriage cert for Ethel and Robert Snr although in a newspaper article in 1929 Mrs Foreman states that they have been married 20 years. The only marriage we can find is 1909 Robert Foreman and Alice Ellender Care in Dover but Alice went on to remarry as a widow in 1922.
This is the strange part: Robert Jnr's youngest sister born in 1932, Phoebe Foreman has the mother listed on her birth cert as Alice Ellenor Foreman formerly Care. Strangely on one of Robert Jnr's siblings birth certs in 1926 the mother is listed as Ethel Foreman formerly Care. Phoebe is listed on the 1939 Register as living with Ethel and two sisters in Ealing.
Ethel died in London in the early 1950s after being knocked over by a bus and Robert Snr. had died quite a few years before.
Any thoughts would be much appreciated as we are going round in circles.
