You are 100% correct!  :o Thank you to everyone but especially to yourself and William for correcting my error.

I've been away from the genealogical research for months and seem to have picked up a false lead that I must have added, perhaps accidentally, as a source to my tree last time I looked into this.

I'm not sure how I could have thought that the John MacPherson in the 1851 census was the same person.

Ann is also listed as a widow on her death certificate in 1857.

I feel like I have wasted all of your time - sincere apologies!

The 1851 family is my family - the son Peter is my 3x great grandfather. So you are spot on.
