Small ships WW2 ?
« on: Thursday 06 July 17 05:45 BST (UK) »
Have been doing some research for a friend.  He is insistent that his father was in the UK Merchant Marine in WW2. Done a search into such info and cant find any ref to a  David Walter NEWSOM/E, born 6 May  1916
I know there was Small Ships Fleet ( or Little Ships ) that plied out of Australian ports during WW2
and about the evacuation of Dunkirk.  Was there a general fleet during all of WW2 of misc  ships ?

David Walter NEWSOM m Betty RYMES in 1939 . Had a son in 1942 and migrated to Australia in 1953.

Welcome to RootsChat! ;D

Most men serving in the Merchant Navy were also Reservists in the Royal Navy Reserve.

As with anyone serving in the Armed Forces after 1920, any war service records will be with the MOD.
See: https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/overview

And, there is guide here:
