Unknown WW2 Location Sought Please
« on: Thursday 06 July 17 15:11 BST (UK) »
I wonder if anyone could hazard a guess as to where this WW2 postcard photo would have been taken. It's from a pile of postcards and photos that belonged to my late Father.
Thanks for looking.

Absolutely  no idea I'm sorry Carol, but I'm interested to see what others come up with.

Might it help to know where your father served?

(PS. the coast reminds me of North Wales but I don't think those houses fit that wild theory. I'm beginning to sound like "our old mate".   :-[)

I really only posted so I could follow this thread.  ;)

Hi Ruskie and thanks for your interest...The only one that is written on says "Rowing Boat Crew, in Bermuda". He was on the training ship HMS Victory and the AMC Maloja... I think Malaya and the East Indies but not sure...and possibly Sierra Leone.

The roof of the house in the foreground is quite unusual, but I couldn't hazard a guess as to the location. Sorry.

Lots of chimneys, so somewhere which needs heating? :-\

I really hope someone can solve this puzzle for you.  :)

I agree it does look very much like the Menai Straits in North Wales, but doubtful there was any war ships sailing up and down there in WW2.
Burmuda could be refering to HMS Burmuda a Colony Class Light Cruiser and Convoy Escort of the Royal Navy. If you Google it there are plenty of sites that give you details of where it was in WW2 and perhaps you could match it up to the Military Records.

The postcards look to be printed using the same card, same borders etc, so maybe the photos were taken on the same trip?  :-\

Vegetation and buildings in the rowing boat photo look to be abroad .... (somewhere)

That's worth some consideration but he is not listed as sailing on that vessel and in does say "In Bermuda",
Thanks for your interest.
