Row 37 - Great Yarmouth
« on: Friday 07 July 17 10:55 BST (UK) »
Hi everyone,

Im trying to locate the location of Row 37 in Great Yarmouth. My family resided there around the 1840's. Im having trouble locating a map that include's the row numbers.

Cheers

I assume this is an address from the census.  Have you looked at the enumerators route to get some idea where it is.  Adjoining streets on the census may also help.

No problem. I have recently discovered my 3x Great Grandfather came from Great Yarmouth, before moving to Woolwich in Kent from where he was transported to Australia as a Convict. Im hoping to visit some sites next year when I visit London from Australia.

Row 37 is now blocked up and built over Row 38 exists
The map below shows where it was in relation to the Gallon pot pub which I know was on Row 31

The Photograph shows Row 38 on the left so Row 37 would be where the Co-op front door is now

Hi

A piece from the Great Yarmouth Mercury (12 June 2014)
http://www.rootschat.com/links/01kd8/

"I can find no clue as to how it came to be named Troy Alley, a dead end opening on to North Quay between Rows 45 and 37; a similar alley was located between Rows 37 and neighbouring 34, but had no name. As for Row 37, it was called Glasshouse Row because the glass works of the celebrated William Absolon were located there long ago."
