War time nurses
« on: Friday 07 July 17 18:14 BST (UK) »
Now then, about time to put some more meat on the bones...  And maybe someone can help me a little.

Does anyone know anything about the extra special, enlistment of Nurses to help with the Soldiers sent home from being gassed in France.

All I know is a heck of a lot of Soldiers were sent to Leicester after being injured etc  towards end of WW 1 and my Gran was enlisted as a Nurse to meet and help attend these at London Road Station.  They were then put into temporary accomodation / Tents and things  - on Victoria Park..

thanks  ;) :)

What is now the University of Leicester was a Military Hospital in WW1. As the university grounds are next to Victoria Park this could be why the Park was used as overflow accommodation when the need arose.
