Anthony Kosick 1879-1923
« on: Friday 07 July 17 21:26 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to trace the movements of my great grandfather
He was born in Viganj 1879 Antun Kosić
He migrated to Australia. I found his application for certificate of naturalization dated June 4 1912 - says he arrived 28th October 1898.
He married in Viganj 1908 to Antoinette Paravia. Had two children 1908 ,1910.
Antoinette and children arrived in Australia April 1913
Anthony died 1923 Fremantle WA.
I also know he was in San Francisco and had left before the great earthquake of 2006.
aka Janko
different spellings for surname kosić , Kosich
Hope someone can find some info for me. Thank you

Earthquake was 1906

He presumably left Australia sometime between October 1898 and 1908 if he married in Viganj and then returned to Australia between 1910 - 1912 when he obtained his naturalization papers

I've been looking for arrival and departure information.
He arrived in Australia in 1898
Was in SAN Francisco before the earthquake in 1906
Married in 1908
Naturalization app signed in Australia in 1912
Wife and children arrived in 1913
In SAN Francisco he could be with a Splivalo family ( maiden name of grandmother)

Thank you. My grandmother was one of those children. Frances :). I'm trying to fill in gaps and learning a lot along the way.
Torna,are you directly related!
I have found documents stating when Anthony Kosic first arrived. Some newspaper articles while he was in Boulder and the one about the boat accident. He must have left Australia at some point to Marry Nan Kosic in Viganj. But can't find any more departing or arriving information.
Hope you can help.

I see his naturalisation is under "Janko Kosich", and confirms that he has a wife and two children "in Austria".  The ship he arrived on was a German mail ship and I wonder if he was crew on that voyage and on others - might explain difficulty tracking him. Also says he was in Boulder, WA, for 9 years.

You might want to look at the entry "PP14/1, 5/2/170" which is under the same name. Requesting this to be made available will cost $27.89.

PP14/1 is:
Quote
Description of series:
Reports of investigations made by the WA Police Force, at the request of Military Intelligence, into the activities, movements and statements of aliens.  Copies of letters intercepted by the Military Censor and handed to Intelligence for investigation (with details of subsequent action taken).  Recommendations re internment or arrest of enemy aliens following investigation into their activities and statements.  Reports of investigations made into the activities of organisations thought to be opposed to the allied cause, amongst these are: - the Anti-Conscription League, International Workers of the World and various alien societies. Results of investigations made following receipt of information from numbers of individuals who reported supposed enemy activities in Australia.
