Hmm, John seems quite intriguing. You could well be right about those naming patterns, Suz.

Still, I wish I could be sure William Collins Ince was really John's dad. I guess I'd probably need to order the certificate for that.

What happened to William is the question that interests me the most, but seems to be the hardest to find! :)

I think you can be pretty sure John C Ince is Williams C Inces Son, Birth Reg GRO regimental birth indexes, with Mother Jemima in 1851 Census.

Bit of a devil with a much younger Wife in 1911 ;D

Oh I was confused for a second there. Thought you meant the original Amelia Collins Ince married Arthur Smith, not the niece! I should read things properly.

Funny though, the Amelia that is William's daughter, the "original" Amelia, she married John Waters. And John Waters worked at Banstead Asylum (as a bailiff), which is where it seems Arthur Smith and niece Amelia Ince probably met. :)

Thanks for all the help! Yes, I need to do some mulling, haha!

If anyone else has clues as to find out more about William, please let me know. Thanks!

John Waters and wife Amelia are at London Asylum Banstead Surrey at the same time as neice Amelia Collins Ince in 1901
I just get the feeling the family stayed in touch even though military careers took them to many countries

Just another snippet before I go

Arthur Ernest Smith was at the Asylum in 1901 at the same time as John Waters & wife Amelia

Arthur Ernest Smith and wife Amelia (neice of John Waters & Amelia) had a son

Baptisms
Sutton Surrey
Private baptism
Arthur John Collins Smith
born 9 April 1905
baptism 13 April 1905
parents Arthur Ernest & Amelia Collins Smith
6 West st Sutton
father's occ Asylum attendant

it may be worth putting a post on the military section for more details about william - post a link back to this page and the death reg could possibly be between birth of John Collins Ince on Gibraltar and remarriage of jemima

It may also be worth checking Jemima's new husband -as he was a military man he may have served with William??
