James Colquhoun of Tunbridge Wells
« on: Saturday 08 July 17 13:05 BST (UK) »
I would like to obtain the marriage record of James Colquhoun born October 29,1857 at Bothwell, Lanarkshire Scotland, the son of William Colquhoun and Eliza Short. James was a mining clerk in Scotland before emigrating to Arizona USA in 1883 where he eventually became president of the Arizona Copper Company. Upon his retirement he and his wife and two sons ( William Wallace Colquhoun (1890-1915) born in Clifton Arizona; and James Clifton Colquhoun (1893-1977) born in Clifton Arizona) moved to Tunbridge Wells Kent and lived in a fine home at 31 Ferndale Road. The family was still there in 1934. While his surviving son remained in England James and his wife lived in California and BC, Canada, James died in BC, Canada in 1954 and his wife in California in 1944.

I believe James was married in Scotland. His wife was Elizabeth S. Colquhoun identified in her death records as Elizabeth Scott Colquhoun (1859-1944) and who was also from Bothwell, Lanarkshire Scotland which is how the couple met. At the time of the 1881 census, taken at 8 English Row, Old Monkland, Lanarkshire James was single and working as a clerk at an iron works. He was living with his parents William and Eliza and three siblings.

Since James emigrated to Arizona in August 1883 I suspect he must have been married in Scotland in 1882 although I can not find out any information about his wife until the birth of their children in Clifton Arizona in 1890 and 1893 apart from a birth record for an Elizabeth Scott Wallace April 12,1859 at Bothwell, the daughter of James Wallace and Mary Robertson. There is also a birth of Elizabeth Wallace August 21,1859 at Old Monkland, Lanarkshire the daughter of Edward Wallace (1825-1891) and Mary Robertson (1823-1900) and so I am not sure which one married James Colquhoun.

Any information about James Marriage and any information about his wife would be much appreciated.
