Hello Margaret
Just thought I would add this possibility for Charles Strickson  in the 1881 Census

Poplar: Charles  Strickson b1849 Huntingdonshire, Engine Fitter
Wife Ann b1858 Doncaster; daughter Topsy G b 1880 Limehouse.
I have looked at the GRO birth site which gives Topsy's Mum's surname as Lee (Stepney 1879). Ann may have died in 1889 Stepney.
It is possible that Charles lied about his age, started a new family and when Ann died went back to his wife, Emma. I have found a marriage for Topsy to Walter James Barlow in 1903.

Thankyou SO much for the added info on our ancestors, not bad when considering I traced this family back to Joynes Stryxton, in 1523 at Yarwell, who held a great deal of land.Margaret.
