Harry, I don't know where her middle name 'Shepherd' came from. It's not in my family tree, as far as I'm aware. Do you have links with Annie? Have you come across any links between her family and the surname 'Hill' or Ayrshire?

No, I don't have any links with her, I was just curious. The surname Shepherd is commonest in north-east Scotland and is one of the old surnames in the fishing village of Auchmithie in Angus, where I had ancestors (tho' not Shepherds).

I've managed to find a possible lead via the ScotlandsPeople website which Im hoping to have a chance to investigate soon at my local ScotlandsPeople Centre. An Ann Swan married a George McCallum in 1845 in Largo, Fife (OPR). There's a statutory death entry for an Ann Swan / McCallum age 66 in 1891 at Kirkcaldy & Abbotshall, Fife. My direct ancestor, Christian McCallum 1817-1880 (maternal grandmother of the Hill sisters) had a brother George, born in 1823. It may come to nothing but it's worth a look.

Annie Shepherd b 1799 i think was Annie S Swan's great grandmother hope this helps you.

Correction! Annie S Swan's grandmother was Ann Shepherd b 1766 not 1799 - sorry!
