Eugene GALLAGHER (Ireland) Lookup
« on: Monday 10 July 17 01:30 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

I'm trying to find details on my Great-Great Grandfather Eugene AKA Owen Gallagher. He was born around the year 1863 and married on the 18 September 1893 in Glasgow, Scotland to Teresa O'Connor. He died on the 02 December 1938 in Glasgow. His death certificate lists his parents as Hugh Gallagher and Bridget O'Brien. I cannot find any birth record for him but the family says the Gallagher side originally came from Tyrone in Ireland.

Any details on his date of birth and parents and siblings would be much appreciated.

Tony

Hi Tony,

Does the parents names match on his marriage which would be more reliable than that of info. on a death cert. which is from a 3rd party not himself?

Hi All,

The Marriage Certificate does match yes. I'm interested in this James Gallagher. Is McBrine another way of saying O'Brien? If so, I may need to investigate that thread further.

Cheers,

Tony

Is McBrine another way of saying O'Brien?

Mc/Mac/O' all mean 'son of'

'Brine/Brien' would be an accent difference....how it was pronounced/heard....

Many thanks! Amazing you found that Eileen, I can't actually read the record fully - does it say Eugene is son of HUGH and Bridget Gallagher? I think we've almost reached a conclusion now. Charles and Hugh being other children seems very logical since Eugene himself had a son Hugh (my G-Grandfather) and a son Charles.

Never knew about McBrine being same as O'Brien - thanks Annie. I guess James is another son.

Just found death record of Bridget Gallagher on Irish Genealogy - they transcribed it as "Birdget Gallagher" which made it a pain to find. She died on June 1st 1901 aged 75 years which fits.

Thanks again,

Tony

Hello All,

Will there be any possibility of finding the parents of Hugh Gallagher and Bridget O'Brien?

Do Baptismal records like Eugene's go back that far?

Thanks
