1467 Will of Henry Richard alias Fermers - COMPLETED
« on: Monday 10 July 17 11:04 BST (UK) »
I can see that I can buy from National Archives UK, a copy of the "Will of Henry Richard alias Fermers, Woolman of Langford, Oxfordshire" - 15 October 1467.

I guess that it is available from Ancestry, but I just can't find it on the free search index.

Could someone please tell me if the one for "Henora Richards" death about 1467, is the same Will that I am after. If so, then I can get a copy free from the local library.

Can anyone help me please.

Regards
Grantley

Yes, it's the correct will. Ancestry have mistranscribed Henrici (= of Henry) as Henora.

You should be aware that the will is entirely in Latin (about 40 lines).

Fantastic. Thank you very much.

PS; I am learning to deal with that abbreviated Latin, painful as it is.

You might be interested to know of the Oxfordshire FHS "wills library" - see http://wills.oxfordshirefhs.org.uk/

Dave, the Oxfordshire FHS wills coordinator, is building up a library of Oxfordshire will transcripts - any will where any Oxfordshire place is mentioned is relevant.  We have permission to do this with wills held at Oxfordshire History Centre, and on the web with Findmypast, and the PCC wills held at TNA.  So do please let Dave have a copy of the will and your transcript - I don't see it there already.

Furthermore - and this may be of interest to you - Dave is willing to transcribe wills for the library for free.

Hi Wendy.

Thank you, I am always willing to share my research results & transcripts.

I am just back from the library and I now have 5 Oxfordshire wills to transcribe. All are readable but, the writing style is as expected for 15th & 16th century Wills. One is 9 pages long.

Hopefully I can get started in the next week or so.

Regards
Grantley
