German text on back of photograph
« on: Monday 10 July 17 13:28 BST (UK) »
This image is of some handwritten text, with pencil, on the reverse of a family photoghraph, which also depicts a monk, a priest and a nun.

Can anyone see it sufficiently well to offer a translation?

Alistair,

The writing is fairly clear. But I really don't understand how it relates to the picture.

Das gehört der Lugard
aber es wirt wohl nicht gut halten
u[nd] ist nur ein Muster

That belongs to Lugard (literally 'the Lugard')
but it won't keep well
and is only a sample

The dative form 'der' used after the verb 'gehört' would indicate that Lugard was a woman.

Thank you Justin - it doesn't make any sense to me either!  ;D

It obviously did to the writer! I'll need to put my thinking cap on.
