Occupation ident. please *COMPLETED THANKS*
« on: Monday 10 July 17 16:21 BST (UK) »
I have an 1841 census for Duncan Maclean and family (Cathrine, Mary, John and Juan) living in Tayvallich, N. Knapdale.  His occupation is given as H.L.W.  Any ideas as to what this would be, please?  I cannot find this census on SP, where I would be able to see the original.

Yep

HLW is  standard abbreviation for Hand Loom Weaver in the 1841 census.

I would agree.   Also I think the family are on Scotlands People if you look in 1841 for Cathrine Mclean age 45 in the parish of North Knapdale

Of course!!! Duh ??? Most of my paternal line are from Lancashire so I should have known that (this is hubby's line).  Many thanks for that.  And I've tried the Catherine Maclean aged 45...wrong family, so I wasted 6 credits!!  I tried with all the names of this family, especially Juan - after all, that is unusual, and there is nada.  But I have the answer I wanted, so many thanks, Chatters
