Hi again, I would love to know where the Maria Hancock who married the William Robinson in Sept qtr 1859 Poole is in 1861, as I have located the other couple shown on the page??

William Robinson keeps cropping up, there's a Maria Robinson Hancock married in 1879, Poole.
I think William may have died in jail at Portland.

I think Maria is Maria Grace Hancock b1834 Poole, baptised 16 Jan 1835 in Poole. Mother Anne Davis, father Frances Hancock. Anne and Maria are in the 1851 at Stokes Alley, Saint James, Poole. Anne is a widow.  In 1841 they are at Lagland Street, St James, Poole, still no husband for Anne. Frances and Anne married 30 June 1834, Saint James, Poole.

That  baptism for Maria Grace shows her father FRANCIS was a Mariner, so not surprising he was not at home.

" The Brown family living next door to the widowed Maria Brown in 1891( Your initial post) " is I firmly beieve the son of Samuel & Maria, registered as Francis Samuel but chose to call himself Francis Robert from his marriage to Rosea Best 1885 until his death ?

There's a William Robinson living in Poole in 1861 but he's a widower. RG 9/1340

*note the double B spelling on the GRO index and image and also her burial.


Her death would fit with the William ROBINSON widower in 1861 that you've found.


However because of her age and that there is no father mentioned on the marriage certificate, I think that this could be Maria,

Oddly in 1841 there is no Maria HANCOCK living with this family but there is a Maria BROWN of the right age. I wonder if they are the same person? 

I can't find a definite birth for a Maria BROWN or HANCOCK in the right place at the right time.

Hi Daisy,
Thank you for all that info, it helps to explain the Robinson connection but I don't think it is the same Maria Hancock / Brown the mother of Daniel who was b1873.  Also there is Maria Robinson Hancock who married in 1879. Maria is still alive in 1891 living with Daniel.
