Nancy Violet LLOYD
« on: Thursday 13 July 17 08:49 BST (UK) »
She was born in 1922 and was a shorthand typist/secretary. From passenger lists I have found that she 'emigrated' to NZ in 1948, 1953, 1957 and 1963. Can anyone guide me as to where I can find if she actually emigrated, in which case are there any records of her there, or whether she just visited several times. She died in 1968 in England.

She is on the NZ electoral Rolls in 1949 at Miramar, 1954 at Onslow and 1957 Wellington central. Miramar and Onslow are suburbs of Wellington.  Occupation shorthand typist

Thanks. Are any of these online to see if there are any other occupants?

Yes they are online but there wasn't anyone else of the same surname at the addresses. I will double check
On  her 1957 shipping record from Southampton to NZ it says she was travelling on a NZ passport

Thanks. I have no knowledge of a Jeffery Alexander Lloyd but will keep a note for the future. It was the people sharing the same address I was interested in to see if they fit in the tree.

The Electoral Rolls are alphabetically arranged by surname not by address.
I don't know that they can be searched by address to find those with a different surname living at the same address.
I'll take a look. ancestry says "When browsing these rolls you can conduct searches by surname, district, or year." It would take a lot of browsing I think to find the address.

Well would you believe it. First entry on the page for 1949  Miramar is a Winifred Hilda Abbey at Fort Dorset Hostel. I don't recall Hostel being part of the address for Nancy.
Fort Dorset was built in 1908 to protect Wellingtonn Harbour and was fully operational during WW11.
There are 182 double page images, with 50 names on each image, to browse for the Miramar district in 1949 alone so a task beyond me as house renovations take priority at the moment.
Do you have access to ancestry at your local library?
