Janet Burton (Mitchison) - born Northumberland, England 1908

Hi

Can anybody find what happened to this lady please?

She was born Janet Burton in Radcliffe, Northumberland on 10th February 1908 to Joseph Thomas Burton and Esther Russell.

She was brought up in Ashington, Northumberland.

She married Albert James Mitchison in Ashington in 1930.

Her husband died in a work accident in Ashington in 1942.

It seems she married her husband's younger brother, Sydney (Sidney) Mitchison 1945.

There is a further marriage in 1946 for a Sydney Mitchison to a Gladys Storey in 1946, and I can't find another person other than this Sydney so I'm pretty sure it's him.

There is no death of a Janet Mitchison between 1945 and 1946, and I can't be sure if they divorced.

Janet's only child emigrated to Australia, but I can't find a record of Janet being there.

Can anybody help?

Her marriage to Sydney was Dec qtr 1945 and the 1946 marriage was June qtr 1946.  A divorce would not be that quick. Although not impossible - her death and his re-marriage in that timescale seems unlikely too

Albert James was born 1905 but Sidney was only born 1916 so was 8yrs younger than Janet

Can't see a death for Sidney/Sydney

Be interesting to see what his marital status is shown as on the 1946 marriage cert

She married 1951 and had a child in England in 1958.  Presume that child is still alive so may be able to shed some light on Janet for you

There is someone with a similar name - could the 1946 marriage be him?

Albert's death is shown as Mitcheson in 1942 and there is a Sydney Mitcheson b 1912 - mmn Melville

Janet's 1st husband was born 1905, mother's maiden name Summers.

The Sidney born 1916 has mother's maiden name Summers.

I could be wrong but I thought it too coincidental to be a different Sidney (Sydney) Mitchison.

Perhaps the 1945/1946 marriage certs are needed for clarification.   Bit costly though

so J Grint went out to Australia in 1961
with her husband and child born in 1958, so possibly her mother has died by this time
